This page provides current information about alerts issued by the Office of Campus Safety.

 

Air Quality Advisory-Update: Thursday, Jan. 9 – 2:30 PM

Dear ULV Community,

While the fires in Los Angeles County are not in close proximity to our university, their effects are being felt on campus. According to AQMD, the current air quality has been classified as “Unhealthy.” While campus operations are continuing as normal, we strongly encourage everyone to stay indoors and minimize outdoor activities as much as possible.

For Students:
If the air quality is affecting you, please communicate directly with your professor to discuss any challenges or accommodations.

For Staff/Faculty:
If your work area is impacted, please coordinate with your supervisor to arrange for remote work accommodations if necessary.

Athletics:
All outdoor practices and events are canceled. Indoor activities will continue as scheduled.

Events:
No outdoor events are currently planned or scheduled.

Face Masks:
If you need a face mask, they are available at the Library, Health Center, Campus Center, and Campus Safety.

Wind Advisory-Update #3: Wednesday, January 8 – 5:20 PM

Dear ULV Community,

Wind conditions are expected to improve throughout the evening and into tomorrow. While the fires to the west do not pose an immediate threat to our area, they may be affecting air quality, which remains moderate. Normal operations will continue on the main campus tomorrow. However, we encourage everyone to be aware of their surroundings when outdoors.

Please take note of the following recommendations:

For Staff/Faculty: If your home/area has been affected by the current conditions, please coordinate with your supervisor to address any challenges.

For Students: If the weather conditions are impacting your ability to meet academic commitments, please reach out to your professor directly to discuss accommodations.

College of Law: Monitor your email for any specific instructions related to your area. As of now, normal operations are planned for tomorrow.

The wind conditions have improved, with speeds now reduced to 3-20 mph and are expected until tomorrow evening. Campus Safety and Facilities teams are actively surveying the campus, addressing hazards from fallen tree limbs and branches. Our landscaping contractor has also dispatched additional staff to assist with cleanup efforts. Normal campus operations have resumed, but we urge everyone to remain aware of your surrounding while outside.

Additionally, exercise extra caution while driving in the local area or traveling through the region. Power outages affecting traffic signals have been reported. Treat intersections with non-functioning signals as four-way stops, remain alert for other vehicles and pedestrians, and stop at all intersections, even if you believe you have the right-of-way.

We encourage everyone to exercise caution as these winds are expected to continue until tomorrow. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind:
1. Consider canceling outdoor activities.
2. Be aware of your surrounding
3. Stay informed by keeping up with the latest weather forecasts and alerts from local authorities.
4. Avoid parking on streets near large trees. Instead, utilize our campus parking lots for added safety.

As of this morning, the power has been restored to Barkley building, Barkley Annex, Leo Hall and the Arts and Communications building.

Nov. 12, 2024 – 10:40 AM UPDATED

Due to an incident involving a City of La Verne line behind Barkley Building, there is a currently is a power outage that is affecting the following buildings:

  • Barkley Building
  • Barkley Annex
  • ACB
  • Leo Hall

Edison is currently onsite addressing the power outage and are working to restore power. They have notified us that power will most likely be down for the remainder of the day and possibly a portion of tomorrow.  We will keep the community appraised of any updates or changes to the timeline.

If you have a meeting or class in any of those locations, please contact organizer or professor. 

Fire Advisory: September 13, 2024 – 12:09 PM

The fire continues to move away from the City and minimize any danger to our community. The air quality has improved and is currently at “Moderate” levels. It is expected that the air quality will remain good through the weekend. Normal operations and activities will continue as planned throughout the weekend. If there are any significant changes, you will be notified.

Earthquake Notification: September 12, 2024

Earlier this morning there was a 4.7 magnitude earthquake west of the university in the Thousand Oaks area that was felt by our community.  Campus Safety, Housing, and Facilities followed their protocols and determined there was no damage or impact to the university.  We remain under normal operations.   

Fire Advisory: September 11, 2024 – 5:08 PM

La Verne Fire Authorities have indicated the fire has moved north and there is no immediate threat to the city or university. A small fire north of Claremont has triggered that area to receive Evacuation Warnings which is expected for the next few days.

The air quality has improved in the area but continue to use caution.

Fire Advisory: September 11, 2024

Although the fire has grown, there is no immediate threat and no need to evacuate.  Some areas in the furthest northern part of the city are only getting Evacuation Warnings.  The university is maintaining normal operations.  The air quality has improved to Moderate.

Fire Advisory: September 10, 2024 – 9:20 PM

The Bridge Fire continues to burn north of La Verne and has spread over 30,000 acres. Although the fire is not immediately near the city, portions the north end of La Verne may receive an Evacuation Warning Alert. Despite the notices, the University remains safe and we continue to actively monitor the situation with the police and fire department. The air quality remains poor so please monitor your activity. Fire Advisory: September 10, 2024 – 8:23 AM

As we monitor the fires, we are continuing normal operations with restricted outdoor activities due to the air quality. Please guard your health and hydrate. You will be notified of any changes.

Fire Advisory: September 9, 2024 – 9:15 AM

Due to the Line Fire in San Bernardino and the Bridge Fire in Angeles National Forest (North of La Verne), the air quality remains unhealthy. Please guard your health while delivering and participating in educational programs. As we continue to monitor the events, you will be notified of any changes.
