Dr. Marga Madhuri
Professor, Teacher Education
Marga Madhuri, PhD, has been a literacy educator since 1989, teaching both in K-12 and higher education. Her interest in how children acquire literacy led to her pursuing a Master’s and PhD in Literacy Education, and the Mind, Brain & Teaching certificate at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Madhuri focuses her work on translating research in the neurosciences to classroom practices that support students in socio-emotional and academic success, particularly in regards to literacy.
Marga applies an understanding of the neurosciences in her work as chair of the Dyslexia Teacher Training Program at the University of La Verne, where she trains in-service educators in an Orton-Gillingham, structured literacy program to support students with dyslexia and other challenges in reading. She also teaches literacy methods courses for pre-service teacher candidates at both the multiple and single-subject levels. All courses are based in the science of reading and draw from current information in the neurosciences about how we learn in general and how typical and atypical brains learn to read in particular.
Dr. Madhuri’s personal interests include health and well-being, exquisite nutrition, the outdoors, nature & wildlife, gemstones, teaching, and loves all types of movement, especially hiking. And of course, one of her favorite things is curling up with a good book!
