Theatre Arts Department Presents: PROOF
March 12, 2026 @ 7:30 pm
The University of La Verne Department of Theatre Arts will be presenting David Auburn’s Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning play Proof, opening March 12.
Proof is a highly-compelling and entertaining story of a gifted young woman, Catherine, who has sidelined her own education in mathematics to care for Robert, her mentally ill father, himself a world-renowned mathematical genius. When a groundbreaking and mysterious mathematical proof is discovered among Robert’s notebooks, questions arise about the proof’s authorship, apprehensions about Catherine’s own mental health, Catherine’s relationship with Robert’s former grad student, Hal, and family tensions with Catherine’s sister, Claire.
The cast features Lauren Sandoval as Catherine, Evan Jacobson as Robert, Nathan Terrazas as Hal, and Kessid Cooper as Claire.
Molly Cornell is the designer of the impressive set, with technical direction by Alan Tollefson. Theatre Arts Department chair Tom Ontiveros is the lighting designer, and Aleena Maestas is the costume designer. Other technical credits include properties master Courtney Cecil, assistant lighting designer Logan Soberanis, and stage managers Mya Traylor, Neveah Pamilton, and Kelia Hulon. The production is directed by Theatre Arts Professor Sean Dillon.
The play will be performed on the Dailey Theatre Mainstage, on the campus of the University of La Verne, 1950 Third Street, La Verne, CA 91750.
Proof will run for seven performances in March; March 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21 at 7:30 PM, and a closing matinee performance on March 22 at 2:00 PM.
