Students have the option of fulfilling certain General Education requirements by showing competency through prior learning or experience. The following general education areas can be fulfilled through certification:
- Written Communication
- Quantitative Reasoning
- Foreign Language
- Creative and Artistic Expression
- Community Service / Community and Civic Engagement
- Lifelong Fitness
If a student successfully demonstrates competency in a particular area, the general education area will be fulfilled. Certifications do not carry course credit.
For Written Communication and Community Service / Community and Civic Engagement, students are required to pay a $50.00 fee in order to enter the certification process. Students who wish to meet a requirement through certification should contact the appropriate department for information.
DANTES (DSST) and CLEP Exams
DANTES (DSST) and CLEP (College Level Exam Program) exams assess the knowledge of students across a wide spectrum of college-level coursework and classes. Students at the University of La Verne are eligible to complete these tests and earn up to 44 units toward their degree(s).
