Workplace Violence Prevention Program (WVPP)

University of La Verne (ULV) is committed to employees’ safety and health.  We aim to provide a working environment that minimizes the potential for workplace violence and other safety/security risks. It is the responsibility of all employees to help minimize workplace violence. This policy establishes procedures to minimize the threat of violence in the workplace and provides guidelines for responding promptly and effectively to workplace violence.

California Senate Bill 553

California SB 553 caused the California Labor Code Section 6401.9 to be enacted.

While there is no Cal/OSHA regulation as of yet, the labor code requires that starting July 1, 2024, the majority of employers in California must establish, implement, and maintain a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan that includes the following elements:

  • Prohibiting employee retaliation
  • Accepting and responding to reports of workplace violence
  • Employee workplace violence training and communication
  • Emergency response
  • Workplace violence hazard assessments
  • Other requirements, such as maintaining a Violent Incident Log
