New Student Checklist

New Student Cheklist

Welcome to the University of La Verne!

We are excited to have you join the Leo family! We want to make sure you get started on the right foot when you arrive and we are here to help you in every step of the way. Below we have compiled a list of important things for you to do to help you prepare before and after you have arrived on campus.

Before You Arrive:

Pay the SEVIS I-901 Fee

Before your visa interview, pay the SEVIS I-901 fee online. Print and keep the receipt—you will need it for your visa appointment.

Apply for an F-1 Visa

Schedule a visa interview at the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. Prepare for your visa interview and take with you the required documents: Form I-20 (from the university), SEVIS fee receipt, and financial support documents.

Arrange Housing & Transportation

Secure your on-campus or off-campus housing before traveling. Visit the La Verne Housing website for on-campus options. Plan how to get from the airport to the university.

Set Up Your La Verne Email Account

Being able to access your La Verne email account is vital! You will begin to receive emails that contain very important information and instructions as soon as you are admitted to the university and before arriving on campus. This will be the main form of communication between you and your professors, your academic advisors, the ISSA, and all other campus departments. Please make sure to check your emails regularly.

Set Up Your La Verne Portal Account

Your account will need to be set up in order to view the course available, register for courses, pay tuition, purchase books, and keep your contact information updated within the university system (different than SEVIS). Update your contact information.

Review Policy on Student Health Insurance Requirements

Read the policy on mandatory student health insurance requirement. Visit the Student Health Services for details.

Complete Required Health Forms & Immunizations

Upload your documents to MedProctor (follow their email instructions).

Read the Pre-Arrival Handbook

Prepare your arrival by reading the handbook which contains important information about campus life, rules, and support services. You can find it here.

After You Arrive

Attend Mandatory ISSA Orientation

International students are required to attend orientation to learn about F-1 visa regulations, responsibilities, and how to maintain compliance. Orientation is also a great opportunity to meet fellow international students and explore campus resources and student clubs.

Submit Copies of Your Visa and I-94

International students must complete theNew International Student Check-In Form. On the form, you will be required to upload a copy of your I-94 arrival record and a copy of your visa. Additionally, you will need to add your current U.S. mailing address. If you move or change your phone number, you are required to report it to ISSA within 10 days.

Obtain Your Student ID Card

Visit the Registrar’s Office in Woody Hall with your student number, your passport, and be prepared to have your photo taken.

Apply for Parking Pass (If Needed)

If you have a car, apply for a campus parking pass to park in university lots. To order a parking pass, log into your La Verne portal and click on “Student Resources” on the left hand side of the page. If you have trouble ordering a permit or have any questions, please call Transportation and Parking Services at 909-448-4764 or visit us in the Campus Safety office on the ground floor of the parking structure. Please note that the parking pass does not cover timed street parking.

We are here for you! If you have any questions, contact the Office of International Services and Study Abroad (ISSA).
