Dr. Giacomo Laffranchini is a Professor of Management in the College of Business at the
University of La Verne. His academic experiences reflect a highly international dimension.
Throughout his studies, he has had the unique opportunity to study and work abroad, gaining
invaluable cultural insights and securing fundings to support these global experiences.
Dr. Laffranchini received his Ph.D. in International Business (Management) from the College of
Business Administration at The University of Texas at El Paso. He earned both his Master degree
and Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Brescia in Italy. During
his academic journey, he engaged in international study programs at Université de Montpellier I
“Richter” in Montpellier, France, and the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) in
Mumbai and New Delhi. His research has included fieldwork on micro–entrepreneurs in Latin
America, particularly in Argentina, in collaboration with the Grameen Aldeas Argentina
Foundation. This work explored the tension between social and economic development goals and
the pursuit of financial and operational self–sufficiency by microfinance institutions (MFIs).
Dr. Laffranchini’s main research interests include strategic entrepreneurship, family business
(including management, strategy, and turnaround practices in response to performance decline),
and international management. His work has been published in leading business journals such
as Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, International Business Review, Journal of Managerial
Psychology,Journal of Family Business Strategy, andHuman Resource Development
International, and Journal of Family business Management. He also co–authored several
contributions to handbooks of research and edited bibliographies. Dr. Laffranchini is actively
involved in service to the academic community. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal
of Family Business Management and Management Decision and is a frequent reviewer for
academic conferences and scholarly journals
