Acute illnesses/concerns are health conditions, injuries or illnesses, that develop quickly. SHC provides treatment for the most common injuries or illnesses encountered in university students.
Here are common examples of acute illnesses that are managed at ULV student health center includes:
- Respiratory infections – common cold, influenza symptoms, asthma symptoms
- Gastrointestinal issues – food poisoning, abdominal concerns, diarrhea, nausea/vomiting
- Ear, nose, and throat problems – ear pain and other symptoms, sore throat, sinus symptoms, allergic reactions
- Eye problems – eye redness, eye discharge, change in vision
- Skin conditions – rashes, allergic reactions, insect bites/stings, cellulitis, minor burns
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs) – sudden onset pain or burning with urination
- Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) – new symptoms such as discharge, sores, or painful urination
- Injuries – sprains, strains, joint pain, minor cuts/lacerations
- Asthma attacks – sudden shortness of breath or wheezing
- Migraine or acute headaches – sudden severe headache requiring evaluation
- Fever of unknown origin – acute onset of high temperature needing assessment
- Mental health – a new onset of feeling anxious without chest pain, without shortness of breath

- Slip and falls with musculoskeletal injuries without head injury, without loss of consciousness
