2022 MLK Day of Service – A Celebration
January 17, 2022 @ 9:00 am - January 18, 2022 @ 1:00 pm
“Everybody can be great because everybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.” –Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
You are invited to honor the legacy of service and community inspired by Dr. King as part of the national MLK Day of Service. The University of La Verne’s Office of Civic and Community Engagement 10th Annual MLK Day of Service focuses on our commitment to the University’s core values of Civic and Community Engagement, Diversity and Inclusivity, Ethical Reasoning and Lifelong Learning.
Once again the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us that even the best-laid out event plans can be knocked off course. Although we have designed MLK Day’s in-person service experience with every possible safety measure in place (i.e., required vaccination, face mask requirements and social distancing, outside only, etc.), we understand how the Omicron variant and recent increased case rates has made it challenging to gather for an in-person volunteer event.
As such, we have made the decision, in the best interest of our students, staff, and community partners, to postpone the in-person service for the day. We hope to be able to move this project to late February for Black History Month, and will be sending an update once a date that works best for the majority of participants has been identified.
The good news is that we still are here to help you honor Dr. King’s legacy and celebrate MLK Day of Service!
