La Verne Law Celebrates ABA Approval

University of La Verne leaders, dignitaries and alumni gathered during a pair of April celebrations to congratulate the College of Law for being granted full accreditation by the American Bar Association.

Celebrations occurred on the main campus April 25 and at the College of Law on April 28. A combination of 180 people attended. College of Law Dean Gilbert A. Holmes said numerous alumni who had not been connected with the law school for many years returned for the occasion.

“They saw this event as a reinvigorating affair for the law school,” Holmes said.

Other guests included Ontario City Manager Al C. Boling, members of the City Council and graduates from the Woodland Hills campus.

It marked the culmination of all the hard work and dedication by faculty, staff and students who wanted to see the school achieve full accreditation, Holmes said.

“To see the joy on their faces was really heartening,” he said.

The ABA granted the College of Law full accreditation March 14, raising the school from its provisional status and making it the most affordable accredited law school in California.

Holmes credited numerous innovations introduced at the school to the ABA’s decision, including Court Observation Week, the litigation and transactional law tracks, practical experiences and bar readiness courses.
