College of Law to Welcome Congresswoman Norma Torres for March 24 Panel Discussion

The University of La Verne College of Law will welcome United States Congresswoman Norma Torres to the University of La Verne main campus on Friday, March 24, for a discussion on national political events.

Law Professors Diane Klein and Diane Uchimiya will join Torres on a panel that will examine national issues with legal dimensions such as immigration, undocumented students, the White House travel ban, the national budget, and the Supreme Court.

Torres, who immigrated to the United States from Guatemala at age 5, represents California’s 35th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Her district includes the cities of Bloomington, Chino, Fontana, Montclair, Ontario, Pomona, and Rialto. She previously served as a state senator, assembly member, and as a mayor and council member in the city of Pomona.

The event begins at 2:30 p.m. in La Fetra Auditorium. It is one of several events organized in March in recognition of Women’s History Month.
