Students may be eligible for additional Direct Unsubsidized Loan funds in place of a Parent PLUS Loan if they meet the following criteria:
- Parent is unable to manage additional debt due to their existing debt burden. Parents with a debt-to-income ratio exceeding 50% will be reviewed for eligibility
- Parent’s income is limited to public assistance or disability benefits
- Parent is not a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Parent has filed for bankruptcy and is not allowed to incur any additional debt
- Parent is currently incarcerated
- Parent whereabouts are unknown
If any of the above criteria apply, complete the Parent PLUS Loan Override Request, attach necessary documentation and submit to the Office of Financial Aid for a final determination.
