Best College for Veterans
Having spent more than 45 years providing quality educational opportunities to individuals involved in the nation’s armed services, the University of La Verne has been recognized as California’s No. 1 institution assisting veterans and active-duty members.
In its 2015 Best Colleges for Veterans ranking, U.S. News and World Report listed La Verne as the only California school, public or private, in the National Universities category. The primary goal of the rating is to establish a list of top-ranked schools that offer veterans and active-duty personnel benefits that will help them pursue a college education.
All listed schools meet specific criteria developed for the annual ranking. Each must be certified for the GI Bill® and be a member of the Service members Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium. Private colleges and universities must also participate in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Yellow Ribbon Program, making additional funds available for a qualified student’s education program without an additional charge to that individual’s GI Bill® entitlement.
Since 1969, La Verne has provided a supportive educational environment for men and women on active duty as well as those who have completed their service. Today they can take classes on the university campus in La Verne, at one of the university’s regional campuses – including those located at Vandenberg Air Force Base and Naval Base Ventura County Point Mugu/Port Hueneme, or through La Verne Online. Studies can also continue when an individual receives a new posting, whether in the United States or around the globe.
“The Office of Veteran Students Success serves as an advocate/liaison connecting our veteran students to the services and resources that assist them – academically, financially, emotionally, socially and physically – in successfully achieving their educational goals,” said Veteran Students Success Coordinator Diana Towles. “Our veteran students are focused and goal-oriented. I am honored to serve this amazing group of students and, as a veteran, I am extremely proud of each and every one.”
