Attorney-Student Mentoring in the Electronic Age

Career success is said to be not of what you know, but whom you know. This old adage, though not an absolute maxim, still holds true, especially in the Inland Empire. One does not have to travel far to run into University of La Verne Alumni. They are judges and successful local attorneys, and it is imperative for students to connect with these alumni and other local attorneys, whom they will soon call colleagues.

Developing relationships with attorneys allows students to find a guide. A guide is someone who has traveled a particular career path, someone who can show students that the next few years, though difficult, can be accomplished and lead to a fulfilling and prosperous career.

To assist with finding a guide, the La Verne Law Career Development Office has established an E-Mentor Program to match our law students with successful, skilled attorneys. E-Mentors grant permission to have students contact them via email with career-related questions about their specific practice area. The E-Mentor program is a minimal time commitment for attorneys, and allows students to have access to an experienced professional’s insight and suggestions as it relates to their practice area.
