Dean Receives Excellence in Jurisprudence Award

The Inland Valley Newspaper Group and Shining Glory Publications presented University of La Verne College of Law Dean Gilbert Holmes with the Excellence in Jurisprudence Award at its 19th Annual Celebration of Excellence Awards Gala & Scholarship Dinner April 29.

The event honors the work and achievements of individuals and organizations making a positive impact on the Inland Empire and beyond. The sold out gala drew hundreds of Southern California business, political, faith-based, media, entertainment and community leaders. Funds raised benefit college-bound students.

University of La Verne Board of Trustees Member Emmett Terrell nominated Dean Holmes.

Holmes called receiving the award a great honor, particularly being among recipients known for their impressive contributions to the region.

“I haven’t been here that long, so to be recognized for my accomplishments in such a short time is really kind of overwhelming,” Holmes said.

Other recipients for the gala included NFL Hall of Famer, entrepreneur and philanthropist Eric Dickerson, Dr. Phil Loverso, CEO of Casa Colina Hospital and Centers for Health, and Tamara Weston, National Manager for Macy’s. The event took place at the Doubletree by Hilton in Ontario.

Past recipients have included University of La Verne President Devorah Lieberman, San Bernardino County Third District Supervisor James Ramos, Commissioner Eric Isaacs of U.S. Superior Court, and Carolyn Tillman, Special Assistant to the Superintendent for San Bernardino County Schools.
