Lewis Family Awards Grant to La Verne Law
The College of Law has been awarded a $20,000 planning grant from the Lewis Family.
The law school will use the grant to explore the development of externships and live-client clinics. The law school plans to bring together professors and administrators from the law school with administrators from both the San Bernardino Public Defender’s and District Attorney’s offices.
“We are very excited about receiving this grant,” said Gil Holmes, the Dean of the Law School. “It gives us a lot of flexibility to explore community-based clinics and other types of activities that bring us closer to the people we serve. I commend the Lewis Family and the Office of Community and Civic Engagement for creating this opportunity.”
The focus of the team will be developing a third-year law school curriculum that would feature advanced externships and several live-client clinics. The curriculum would enhance the health and wellbeing in the Inland Empire by connecting the law school’s curriculum to the legal needs of the region’s population.
