University of La Verne Master of Public Administration Program Makes US News & World Report Rankings

The University of La Verne’s Master of Public Administration Program has been ranked among the best in the country by U.S. News & World Report.

The 2018 Best Graduate Public Affairs Programs list placed the university at No. 10 in California and No. 84 nationally out of 155 universities that were ranked.

“We will draw upon this honor and continue to develop the best possible program for those professionals preparing to take on socially responsible roles in public leadership and service,” said Dr. Jack Meek, professor of public administration and president of the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration.

The program prepares students for careers in public and nonprofit administration in local, state, and national government.

U.S. News based its rankings on surveys of deans, directors, and department chairs for 282 master’s programs in public affairs and administration in fall 2017.

Meek and Program Director Dr. Marcia Godwin credit numerous factors to the program’s success:

  • Aligning curriculum with the changing needs of the region
  • Top-notch faculty who hold key roles in associations related to the field
  • Alumni who have had a positive impact on their communities, including two who recently received national recognition for their capstone projects

“We are most proud of our alumni, who play significant roles in shaping public service in our communities, different regions in the nation, and abroad,” Meek said. “We refer to our alumni as the “LEO public service nation,” a talented group of individuals dedicated to improving our communities.”
