College of Business and Public Management Students Provide Free Tax Preparation Services to Eligible Local Taxpayers
Now in its tenth year, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at the University of La Verne is again available for local, eligible taxpayers to receive free tax preparation services.
VITA is an IRS‐sponsored community program that helps low-to-moderate-income families and individuals (generally with an annual income up to $60,000) located in La Verne and surrounding communities. Local program sites are managed by IRS partners and staffed by volunteers who are IRS-certified.
Though the University of La Verne is currently operating remotely because of COVID-19 restrictions, students in the College of Business and Public Management will be providing limited virtual tax preparation services to those taxpayers who have previously used the VITA service. Virtual appointments will be scheduled on Saturdays in two-hour increments beginning on February 6 and continuing through April 10.
Those who have not previously used the VITA program or who do not want to have their tax return prepared virtually can use this link to either locate another VITA site that is providing on-site preparation or a link to free Federal tax software.
Eligible returning VITA clients who would like to have their tax return prepared virtually can schedule a Zoom appointment. To participate, they must have access to the following during their scheduled appointment:
- Computer or cell phone with video and print capabilities
- If married filing jointly, both spouses must attend the Zoom appointment
- Valid government ID
- Ability to upload and download PDF files
- Tax documents (e.g., W-2, 1099s, etc.)
To schedule a Zoom appointment, send an email to vita@laverne.edu and provide at least three available dates. A confirmation email will include a link to the Zoom appointment and the requirements and documents needed on the day of the appointment.
