Message from President Lieberman on Today’s U.S. Supreme Court Ruling

Dear University of La Verne Community,

In light of  today’s U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on affirmative action, the University of La Verne wants to reassure our university community and the constituents we serve that the University of La Verne remains committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion —  all tenets of our mission, vision and core values.

With more than 70 percent of our students from underrepresented groups and as a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution, we are among the most diverse private not-for-profit institutions in the nation. We recognize the benefits of an educational institution that supports faculty, staff, students and community members of varying backgrounds, identities, experiences, and beliefs.

While the full implications of the Supreme Court decision are still being evaluated, we do not believe there is any direct or immediate impact on our institution due to our current holistic and lawful approach to recruitment and the application review. The university looks forward to any further guidance and recommendations from the U.S. Department of Education as it continues to analyze practices that help build more diverse and inclusive student bodies.

The University of La Verne continues to foster a culture that welcomes, embraces, and celebrates all individuals.  We look forward to carrying out our mission and vision of recruiting, retaining and graduating students who contribute to the greater community.

Sincerely,

Devorah Lieberman
President
