Extended Learning Earns Workforce Training Award

The University of La Verne Extended Learning Program has been honored as a top training provider by the South Bay Workforce Investment Board, earning recognition for its role in empowering individuals to succeed in today’s evolving job market. The distinction was celebrated on last month at the Intuit Dome, where more than 400 attendees, including local businesses, community leaders, and program participants, gathered to recognize excellence in workforce training and development.

Extended learning offers non-degree, non-credit courses designed to meet the unique needs of working professionals, alumni, and lifelong learners. Unlike traditional degree programs, which require long-term commitments and lead to academic credentials, extended learning courses are typically shorter, focused on specific skills or certifications, and tailored for immediate application in the workplace. These courses prioritize flexibility, accessibility, and career relevance, making them ideal for individuals seeking to advance in their careers, upskill for new opportunities, or explore personal interests.

This targeted approach to education has yielded impressive results. The program’s SHRM SCP/CP – Human Resource Management with California Law course boasts a 90-100% placement rate, showcasing the program’s ability to connect participants with tangible career outcomes.

In partnership with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), the program also ensures accessibility by offering federal funding to cover tuition and certification fees for eligible participants. This collaboration makes professional development attainable for individuals who might otherwise face financial barriers.

As workforce demands continue to shift, the need for adaptable, practical education has grown. Studies indicate that 50 percent of the global workforce will require new skills by 2025, with employers increasingly seeking candidates who demonstrate continuous learning and adaptability. Extended learning addresses these trends with a catalog of programs designed to prepare participants for the future, while also offering personal enrichment opportunities to anyone with a thirst for knowledge.
