Students Provide VITA Tax Services

For the 14th consecutive year, the University of La Verne’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is providing a valuable learning experience for students while making a meaningful impact on the local community. Accounting students are assisting with  free IRS-certified tax preparation services to individuals and families with an annual income of $70,000 or less. These services are available every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Cogley Building (2180 Third Street, La Verne, CA 91750) through April 5, 2025.

The VITA program serves as a hands-on learning opportunity for La Verne students, offering them the chance to gain practical experience in tax preparation. By assisting local residents with tax filings, students develop crucial skills while giving back to the community. The program helps students build professional networks, solve real-world problems, and gain confidence in their abilities—essential components of their academic and career growth.

For the residents of La Verne and surrounding areas, the VITA program provides essential tax services, including free e-filing and paper filing assistance. While walk-ins are welcome, those seeking to avoid long wait times are encouraged to make an appointment by emailing VITA@laverne.edu. Participants should bring necessary documentation, including proof of identity, Social Security numbers, wage statements, and last year’s tax return, if available.
