LaFetra College of Education Joins Prestigious National Consortium to Transform Doctoral Education
The University of La Verne proudly announces that its LaFetra College of Education (LFCE) has been accepted into the prestigious Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED), a national consortium of over 150 institutions committed to reimagining the Ed.D. as a rigorous, equity-centered, practice-based degree.
CPED is at the forefront of preparing educational leaders to address complex, real-world challenges across the PK-20 continuum. Membership in the influential network reflects the University of La Verne’s longstanding commitment to education equity, innovation, and community-responsive leadership.
Acceptance into CPED followed a competitive peer-reviewed application process led by the CPED Membership Committee, which recognized LCFE’s readiness to contribute meaningfully to the consortium’s mission and scholarly community.
Joining CPED represents a significant milestone for the University of La Verne,” said Dr. Risa Dickson, president of the University of La Verne. “It aligns directly with our mission of academic excellence by preparing highly skilled practitioners, advocates, and equity-minded leaders to serve diverse educational communities.
The University of La Verne now joins an esteemed cohort of institutions such as the University of Southern California, Arizona State University, and Baylor University, positioning LFCE among national leaders advancing the future of doctoral education.
Membership in CPED will:
- Strengthen LFCE’s academic brand in the competitive landscape of doctoral.
- Equip faculty with research-based design frameworks, resources, and collaborative development opportunities.
- Enhance LFCE’s appeal to educational leaders seeking a practitioner-focused, equity-driven doctoral experience.
- Foster cross-institutional learning and scholarly engagement for faculty and students.
“This membership reaffirms our vision to prepare equity-driven scholar-practitioners who are ready to lead systems change,” said Dr. MD Haque, dean of the LaFetra College of Education. “We’re proud to contribute to CPED’s national movement for innovation in doctoral education.”
LCFE’s newly launched EdD program in Educational Leadership reflects this commitment. Designed for PK-12 professionals, the program is structured for accessibility and impact. It is 36 units, can be completed in just two years, and is offered at $1,000 per unit to support working educators.
Our program was built to meet leaders where they are – grounded in practice, responsive to community needs, and focused on real-world impact,” said Dr. Shana Matamala, chair of the EdD Program. “Becoming a CPED member strengthens our ability to support educators through collaboration and continuous improvement.
