University of La Verne College of Law Student Awarded Civic Engagement Scholarship

College of Law student Elda Rosales received a $7,000 John Lewis King Memorial Scholarship from the San Bernardino County Bar Association during the organization’s installation dinner on Oct. 12 in San Bernardino.

The scholarship, named after a lawyer who practiced in San Bernardino County from 1945 until 1967, is awarded to students who demonstrate strong civic engagement in the county.

Rosales is a law clerk at the Vega & Rivera immigration law firm in Ontario and serves as editor for the University of La Verne College of Law Review. She is a Whittier resident.

Rosales is a member of the Joseph B. Campbell Inns of Court, secretary for the university’s Women’s Legal Society, and student ambassador for the College of Law.

Rosales participated in the study abroad program last summer in Madrid, Spain, learning international family law and European Union law. She helped organize the Spanish for Legal Professionals workshop at the College of Law in September, a well-attended event by the legal community.

Rosales, a first-generation student, attended the University of California, Irvine where she studied political science. She hopes to serve as an immigration attorney after graduating.

The John Lewis King Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1968 to assist law students in the Inland Empire.
