College of Law Students Compete in Texas Young Lawyers Mock Trial

The University of La Verne College of Law’s mock trial team participated in the Region 14 Texas Young Lawyers’ Mock Trial Competition in Santa Monica on Feb. 8-11.

Two teams – coordinated by Assistant Professor Krista Correa and coached by alumnus and San Bernardino Assistant District Attorney Justin Crocker ‘13 – competed against 30 other teams. Third-year students Angel Jordan, Veronica Mittino, and Ernest Newlun joined second-year students Robbie Abbasi, Desi Adeleke, and Kumal Naik at the competition.

Crocker said both teams fared well, with Jordan, Mittino, and Newlun advancing to the second of five rounds.

“I was extremely proud of both teams,” Crocker said.  “The Texas Young Lawyers’ Competition is the premier mock trial competition in the country.  There were teams from Loyola, Pepperdine and Southern California competing.  With this fine group of (second-year) students, we have a good chance of making it to the nationals next year.”
