Answer

To find on campus employment opportunities go to the Human Resources page on the University of La Verne website, then under the contact information there should be a tab that says student employment openings. That tab will redirect you to the webpage where all the current job postings are available. The page gives you the option to narrow your search between Federal Work Study or Non Federal Work Study, if necessary.

Answer

First to know which books you need for all your classes head over to the back of the student store. There will be a kiosk where you can input your Student ID, which will then print out a list of all required texts for your classes. You can then purchase or rent your books from the bookstore or order them online. Most students that order online use websites such as Chegg, Amazon, and Slugbooks.

Answer

Answer

We’ve been asked enough times this basic question that we felt a need to answer it here.  Definitely yes, you will need a computer for college.  Although a Chromebook can minimally provide you with basic PC functions for course assignments, some majors may require specialized software that only a PC (Windows) or a Mac (Apple) can handle.

Although we are not computer experts, below is a baseline recommended set of specs that several colleges and universities recommended for either a PC or Mac.  Given the mobile lifestyle of an active college student, we recommend a laptop over a desktop.

Computer-related accessories:

  • USB or Thunderbolt external storage hard drive (1 TB) OR cloud-based subscription storage account such as Amazon Cloud, Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, etc.
  • Antivirus software installed and properly configured.
  • Flash Drive 32 GB Minimum.
  • Microsoft Office (paid license or subscription with Office 365) or similar free alternatives such as Google Docs, Libre Office, OpenOffice, etc..

PC (Windows): Business or gaming laptops are better built with better components over consumer-based builds, but are more expensive.  Buy as much PC as you can afford. Below are recommended minimums:

  • Intel 5 (Minimum), but recommend Intel i7 or i9 processor.
  • Windows 10 or 11 (the newest PCs are bundled with Win 11).
  • 8-12 GB (Minimum); 16 GB of RAM (Recommended).
  • Dedicated video processor: Nvidia Quadro, Nvidia® Geforce 1660, 2060, 3060 or greater.
  • At least a 500 GB hard drive (SSD hard drive), but recommend 1 TB.
  • Wireless networking adapter (for internet).

Apple PC (MacBook/Pro):

  • Apple MacBook Pro.
  • Apple Silicon (M1 Arm CPU) (newest units might be running M2 CPUs).
  • 16 GB of RAM (Minimum).
  • Mac OS 12.
  • 512 GB SSD hard drive.
