Degrees and Diplomas

Frequently Asked Questions

Answer

It is best to contact your academic advisor if you have questions regarding your evaluation of graduation requirements.

Answer

Your academic advisor should be your first resource if you have questions regarding your degree progress or required courses, or if you would like to discuss available course options.

Answer

An unofficial copy of your degree requirements can be obtained through Degree/Program Evaluation. Please visit Degree/Program Evaluation for further instructions on how to obtain your report.

Answer

All degrees are posted within 60 days of completing your last degree requirements. Although many degrees are posted sooner, there is no need to worry if you haven’t received your degree posting notification by email.

Please remember that failure to promptly submit official transcripts from all transfer institutions attended, resolve outstanding holds, submit a graduation application and/or fee may further delay in the degree posting process.

Answer

Diplomas are ordered once per month and may only be ordered for degrees that have already been posted. You can expect to receive your diploma one to two months following your degree posting.

Answer

If you have an urgent situation that requires a rush degree posting, contact the appropriate office:

    • Undergraduate Students contact Evaluations at evaluations@laverne.edu
    • Graduate and Doctoral Students contact gas@laverne.edu

If all of your academic credentials and paperwork are in order, the staff should be able to post your degree within 5-7 business days. HOWEVER – If your degree audit reflects any missing requirements, it is your responsibility to work with your Academic Advisor and with Registrar Staff to provide any missing transcripts or documentation. Your assistance in providing any missing information will greatly expedite your degree posting.

Because we rely on an outside vendor, please note that rush diplomas are available only on a very limited basis. Rush diplomas take approximately three weeks from the order date to arrive.

Answer

If you have not received your diploma, contact the appropriate office to see if it was returned due to an incorrect address, or a mailbox too small to fit the package.

  • Undergraduate Students contact Evaluations at evaluations@laverne.edu
  • Graduate and Doctoral Students contact gas@laverne.edu

If it has not been returned, the next step is to check with your post office.  If the post office no longer has the package, a replacement diploma will be ordered if the original has not been received or returned to the University of La Verne after one month of the mailing date.

Please remember that it is your responsibility to notify the appropriate office listed above of any change to your mailing and contact information.  You may update your address on MyLaVerne.

Answer

All you need to do is update your address on MyLaVerne, and be sure to include an international phone number where we can reach you. We will send your diploma via FedEx once it is ready.

You may also ask a friend to pick up your diploma for you from the Registrar’s Office.  To do this you must submit a letter signed by you, or an email from your LaVerne.edu student account, that gives permission to the person who will pick up your diploma for you. Be sure to include:

  • Student’s Full Name
  • Last 4 of your Student ID number
  • Full name of the person who will pick up your diploma

Please note that this person will be asked to present official identification and to sign for you upon picking up your diploma.

Answer

Your degree date is determined by the last degree requirement fulfilled. This might be the last date of the semester or term, the date you turned in all coursework for an INC or IP grade, or the date you paid an academic appeal or applied for graduation.

Answer

The University of La Verne has three diploma dates. Those dates are 1/31, 5/31 and 8/31. Your degree completion date will determine your diploma date.

Answer

Walking in graduation does not necessarily mean that you graduated, or that your degree has been posted. Your degree will be posted within 60 days of completion of your final requirement.

Please note that undergraduate degrees cannot be posted until all official transcripts have been received for transfer work, and all IP or INC grades have been completed. It is your responsibility to complete all coursework within university policies, and to submit official transcripts reflecting all additional transfer credit completed.

Answer

The Office of the Registrar keeps a record of all students who attend commencement. Students who do not attend should receive a commencement program and diploma cover along with their diploma. You should expect to receive these items one to two months from the date your degree is posted.

Answer

The Registrar’s Office keeps a record of all students who attend commencement. If you did not attend commencement, but you did qualify for Institutional Honors, you should receive your cord and tassel along with your diploma, diploma cover, and commencement program. You should expect to receive these items one to two months from the date your degree is posted.

Answer

If you qualify for institutional and/or departmental honors at the time that your degree is posted, they will appear on your transcript. Institutional honors will also appear on your diploma.

Answer

All students are reviewed for honors eligibility at the time of degree posting. Institutional Honors are awarded to all students who meet the minimum requirements at the time of degree posting. Honors are not issued to Graduate or Doctoral level students.

Departmental Honors are only awarded to students who have been nominated by their department, AND who meet the minimum requirements. Contact your Academic Advisor for more information regarding how to apply for Departmental Honors.

Please refer to the Honors section of the catalog for more detailed information regarding honors eligibility.

Answer

Walking in the graduation ceremony does not mean that you graduated.  In order to graduate you need to fulfill all degree requirements.

If the failed class was required for your degree, then it will need to be repeated for a passing grade. Contact the Registrar’s Office or your Academic Advisor for guidance on how to meet your final requirements.

Answer

First you must update your official academic record with the University. To do this, please bring or mail proof of your name change to the Registrar’s Office in Woody Hall.

Once you have updated your name with the Registrar’s Office, you may order a “duplicate” diploma reflecting your new name. To order a duplicate diploma, first fill out the Duplicate/Replacement Diploma Order Form. Submit this completed form, along with your payment of $60, to Student Accounts. Once Student Accounts has received your form and payment, the order will be given to Registrar’s office for processing. Second diplomas generally arrive within two to three weeks.

Answer

Unfortunately, we no longer offer future transcript processing (i.e. ordering a transcript now to be processed after a degree or grades are posted). You must wait until after your degree is posted before ordering. If you’re not sure if your degree has been posted, you can log into MyLaVerne and view your unofficial transcript.
