IRB Hours, Months of Operation, Holidays, and Office Hours

The IRB operates regularly from February to May and September to December.  In January, June, July, and August, the IRB operates unofficially with no regularly scheduled hours or meetings. While we will make every effort to review applications and respond to emails, delays will occur during unofficial months. Moreover, meetings for standard reviews are extremely limited. More information about the standard review schedule can be found here.

The IRB observes all university holidays and is not in operation, expected to review applications during those times, or respond to emails. Moreover, the IRB goes dark with the university at the end of December to early January.

Applicants may email us to set up an appointment. During these appointments, we will meet with applicants either in person or on zoom. We are limited as to what we can do, so please review what we will and will not be able to help you with prior to attending office hours.

Notice:

We can help graduate students, faculty, staff, and administration with:

  1. General application preparation questions
  2. General human subjects questions
  3. Guidance on how to find appropriate federal regulations for human subjects research, La Verne IRB policies, state, federal, and other applicable laws to your research
  4. IRBManager troubleshooting
  5. Other general inquiries

Unfortunately, we cannot offer support for the following:

  1. Undergraduate projects (we can, however, support an undergraduate instructor or mentor)
  2. A review of an application prior to submission
  3. Going over each question in detail or saying that a question is “approved”
  4. Interpreting laws for you
  5. Legal advice
  6. Judgments of how to do your research
  7. Going over every item of feedback from a review

IRB Monthly Committee Meetings and Operation Schedule

The La Verne IRB observes all university holidays and is not in operation, expected to review applications during those times, or respond to emails. Moreover, the La Verne IRB goes dark with the university at the end of December to early January.

The IRB meets on the second Friday of the month to review standard review applications. Meetings are scheduled for the following months:

  • February – May
  • September – December

Please submit your standard review application in IRBManager at least 2 weeks before a scheduled committee meeting. Submissions received less than 2 weeks before a scheduled meeting will be reviewed at the meeting scheduled the month after the month in which the application is received.

Pre-reviews, Exempt Reviews, Expedited Reviews, and Application Help

The IRB Administration Office is open and provides full support year-round. Therefore, pre-reviews, exempt and expedited application reviews, and application preparation help are available and proceed at a similar pace as the semester.
