If you fail to earn a ULV GPA of 2.0 in any semester after being placed on academic probation, you will be academically disqualified. Your options and next steps are dependent on if it is your first time being academically disqualified, or your second.
First Academic Disqualification
If it is your first time being academically disqualified, you may leave the University to take classes elsewhere for one year (two consecutive semesters), or appeal for reinstatement. Review your options and next steps below.
Option 1Take Classes Elsewhere for One Year |
Option 2Appeal for Reinstatement |
This option requires you to take classes at another institution for one year to prove academic success.
If you choose this option:
Follow the steps below to appeal:
*If you do not appeal for reinstatement within one year of leaving ULV your file will be inactivated, and you will be required to reapply for admission* |
This option allows you to remain at ULV by appealing for reinstatement, and is only available to traditional undergraduate students.
If you have extenuating circumstances that contributed to your academic disqualification, you may submit an appeal for reinstatement. Your appeal will be reviewed by the Dean of Academic & Career Success. Follow the steps below to appeal:
If your appeal is approved:

Financial Aid Implications
Students who are academically disqualified from the university are likewise no longer eligible to receive any financial aid at the University of La Verne. A student who is academically reinstated to the university by appeal will also need to submit a SAP (sufficient academic progress) appeal to be considered for federal and state financial aid reinstatement.
Please visit Financial Aid’s website for more information regarding an SAP appeal, and financial aid policy.
*Important note: Before completing an SAP appeal, you need an approved academic reinstatement appeal.*
Second Academic Disqualifications
A second disqualification for failing to earn a ULV GPA of 2.0 or higher results in automatic dismissal for one academic year. If you registered for courses in the upcoming semester, you will be dropped from these classes.
During your absence after disqualification, you are encouraged to matriculate in courses at another college or university to demonstrate academic success.
- We expect that you will take classes elsewhere (12-16 semester hours minimum) to prove you can be academically successful.
- This academic success may help if financial aid eligibility was also compromised.
- After completing one year at another institution, you may appeal for reinstatement using the appeal instructions above.
- If you are approved to resume your studies at La Verne after your one-year absence, you will be expected to sign a new success contract.
For more information on taking courses at another institution, we recommend scheduling an appointment with an academic advisor: here.
The policies governing academic reinstatement and grade repetition are described in the University Catalog.
*If you do not appeal for reinstatement within one year of leaving ULV your file will be inactivated, and you will be required to reapply for admission*
