Academic Advising

Academic Advising

Welcome!

The Office of Academic Advising facilitates individualized advising for students in all different stages of life and academic tracks. Academic advising is an important part of the La Verne Experience. We are committed to providing students with a welcoming and inclusive support environment where students can strive for academic and career success. We are actively involved on campus (and off) to ensure that advising and career services meet “best practices” standards (see our National Footprint section below).

Some administrative responsibilities include:

  • Assigning students with faculty or professional academic advisors in each field of study.
  • Provide administrative and advising support to traditional-age students and their advisors.
  • Support students with academic and financial aid appeals.
  • Faculty support on issues related to academic discipline, classroom conduct, and grade disputes.
  • Assisting the Offices of the President, Provost, and Faculty Governance (including faculty and professional academic advisors) with academic advising and policy inquiries, including the interpretation and application of these policies.
  • Support students’ academic and career preparedness (Academic & Career Services).
  • Workshops, fairs, and events that support the mission of Academic & Career Services, fostering students’ academic, professional, and personal growth toward degree and career success.

We are proud institutional members of:

  • The National Academic Advising Association (NACADA),
  • The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE),
  • The National Career Development Association (NCDA),
  • The National Learning Communities Association (NLCA),
  • The Mountain Pacific Association of Colleges and Employers (MPACE), and
  • Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP).
New Traditional Main Campus Students, Fall and Spring

Incoming freshmen and transfer students are expected to participate in SOAR.

You can now log in to your application portal to start working on your online SOAR checklist. Your checklist will guide you through the course registration process and will include submitting your top three FLEX options (fall freshmen only) as well as signing up for an appointment with an academic advisor.

Graduate Students, Main Campus

Main campus graduate students are advised by the faculty program chairperson for their respective program and by Graduate Academic Services. Graduate students seeking academic advising should contact the appropriate academic department or Graduate Academic Services in their office on the main campus:

Adult and Graduate Advising at Regional and Online Campuses

Academic advising for adult students (CAPA, Regional Campuses, and La Verne Online) begins on the student’s first visit to the regional campus or military center.  Students work closely with an academic advisor in selecting a major and choosing courses each term that best suit their degree and career plans.  A professional academic advisor is available for every student.  For further information please contact the regional campus or military center of your choice (listed below).
